A Voki welcomes student’s to the unit called “Wikispaces”. The Voki gives the student’s instructions on what we are learning about in today’s lesson. The Voki explains to student’s what a wiki is.


What is a wiki?

A wiki is a web page that can be viewed by millions of people worldwide, or it could be viewed privately, the choice is yours. A wiki can be edited by anybody with access to a web browser and access to the internet. The most well-known wiki is Wikipedia. This website is a free encyclopaedia that can be edited by anybody.

Teacher uses laptop and interactive whiteboard to display Wikispaces to the class. Teacher demonstrates to student’s how easy Wikispaces really is, that you can edit other class members work, add information you have found. Upload an image, diagram or video. Explains that the class will have their own Wikispace called “Road Safety”. Student’s will add to this Wiki but they can also have their own individual Wiki. Once the student’s have seen the application we proceed to the tutorial.


Why would you use a Wiki?

A Wiki is an excellent tool to collaborate with others quickly, easily and effectively. A wiki can be for a group of student’s for personal viewing only or a wiki could be viewed publically by millions of viewers worldwide.

How to create a Wiki?

The Voki begins the Tutorial with the student’s giving them instructions on creating a Wikispace for their assignments. Instructions are as follows:-

· Please go to Google and type in Wikispaces (this site is free)
· You will need to set up an account – Just click on Get Started
· Type in a username
· Type in a password
· Email Address
· Make a Wiki – Hit Yes, then Join
· You now have your own Wikispace.
With any username or password, make sure you create one that you will remember.

Now you have each created a Wikispace, you can all try it out. You can add text, images, URL links, videos.
